Meet The Family
So Rob, when did you join King’s and what is your role?
I joined King’s in 2020 and currently serve as an Assistant Head, with responsibility for leading the Sixth Form and overseeing Teaching and Learning.
What would you say that you enjoy most about your job?
The people I serve, both colleagues and students. King’s retains a strong community focus and a family ethos; we care deeply about each individual while also celebrating the collective achievements of the school. It’s the first school I’ve worked in that truly embraces a holistic approach to child development. I believe this reflects our Christian values and spiritual foundation. We strive to give every individual a sense of belonging, and every aspect of the school experience - curricular, super-curricular, and extracurricular - is seen as essential to a child’s growth. This creates a school environment that is vibrant, joyful, and full of celebrations of excellence in all its forms.
What developmental opportunities have been available to you at the School?
Leading on Teaching and Learning has given me a unique perspective on professional development. This year alone, there have been over 100 INSET activities, ranging from whole-school initiatives to tailored individual sessions. I’ve also had the opportunity to complete a Master’s in Educational Leadership through a fully funded apprenticeship, an invaluable experience that has enriched my practice.
Finally, what does it feel like to be part of the King’s School Family?
It’s an honour to be part of so many incredible journeys. Teaching has always brought me a deep sense of spiritual and professional fulfilment, and I feel especially fortunate to be doing this work in the community where I grew up.
So Ashton, when did you join King’s and what is your role?
I joined Kings in September 2025 when I entered my role of an Apprentice Finance Officer.
What would you say that you enjoy most about your job?
The thing I enjoy most about my job is seeing the impact that my work makes, not only to the school and the students but also to the wider community through our connection with the Cathedral and our support of various charities.
What developmental opportunities have been available to you at the School?
I have had a lot of opportunities to develop my skills and knowledge as a member of staff. I am gaining a recognised professional qualification from an external provider which has been funded by the school. I’m also getting hands-on experience using a wide range of different systems and platforms. I work with a diverse range of people and I’m building confidence and skills in communication, negotiation and collaboration. The apprenticeship has been a fantastic opportunity for me as an alternative to higher education.
Finally, what does it feel like to be part of the King’s School Family?
To be part of the King’s Family feels like a real privilege. As a young apprentice coming straight from secondary school I have felt warmly welcomed by all members of staff. I have found the students to be polite, respectful, and equally proud to be at the school.
So Kyle, when did you join King’s and what is your role?
I joined King's in 2024 as Teacher of Physical Education.
What would you say that you enjoy most about your job?
I love the opportunity to enrich students’ lives and school experience through physical activity! Watching students have that 'Eureka moment' when they successfully learn and master skills brings me great joy in my position.
What developmental opportunities have been available to you at the School?
King's has provided plenty of CPD sessions for me to further myself and my career. From trampolining courses, to pickleball, AI sessions to focused SEND talks. These have complimented the support I have received whilst working as an ECT. The talks with experts in my department as well as around the school have supported me as I develop as a teacher.
Finally, what does it feel like to be part of the King’s School Family?
Supportive and inspiring are the words that spring to mind. Supportive members of staff, old and new who will have your back and work with you to help you get the most out of your school life, as well as personal life. Inspiring is the word I would use to describe the students I work with. They literally tackle each new day with a smile. The manners they demonstrate and the appreciation they show for the work put in by every teacher is particularly striking. It really inspires me to give back to our family and provide the best experience with Physical Education that I can.
So Georgie, when did you join King’s and what is your role?
I joined King's in September 2024 as Head of Drama.
What would you say that you enjoy most about your job?
I love the extracurricular opportunities that are on offer to every single student within the school. The number of trips and activities that we are able to offer ensure that our students have the opportunity to connect learning to real-world contexts, making education more meaningful, relevant, and engaging.
What developmental opportunities have been available to you at the School?
From a subject perspective, we have really been supported in expanding our offerings to the students; we have introduced a Lower School performance to the calendar this year. There have also been several opportunities to join working parties within the school, in order to develop school-wide initiatives or policies.
Finally, what does it feel like to be part of the King’s School Family?
King's is a really friendly, inclusive environment. Everyone is keen to help each other. The school shows are an amazing, collaborative opportunity. All of the other creative subjects come together; from DT constructing the set to Art supporting with scenic painting. The King's family ethos is also strongly evident in the students. The Sixth Form are seen as mature role models that support the younger students throughout the school, whether this is within House Music, sporting events or through mentoring roles. King's is truly a remarkable place to work.
