The Houses

Our vibrant House system lies at the heart of our community, fostering camaraderie, leadership, and spirited competition among students. We proudly uphold a tradition that not only enriches the educational experience but also cultivates lifelong skills and friendships.

Our four Houses, St. Chad's, St. Oswald's, St. Peter's, and School House, serve as the foundation of this dynamic system. Each House is led by two captains and four vice-captains, selected from Year 13 students who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and contribution to their House and the broader school community.

Students earn House Points through a myriad of achievements across academic, sporting, and musical endeavours throughout the school year. This friendly rivalry culminates in the awarding of the prestigious House Cup after Sports Day, celebrating the collective efforts and triumphs of the winning House.

A highlight of our annual calendar is the eagerly anticipated 'House Music' event. On this electrifying night, each House showcases their musical talents through performances by their orchestras, bands, junior and senior choirs, all culminating in a grand finale that brings the entire House together in harmony. This event not only highlights our students' artistic abilities but also reinforces the unity and spirit that define The King's School experience.

Through active participation in the House system, our students develop a strong sense of belonging, leadership skills, and a commitment to excellence that extends beyond the classroom, preparing them for future endeavours with confidence and resilience.

St. Chad’s House

Named after Saint Chad of Mercia, who played a key role in introducing Christianity to the Mercian kingdom, St. Chad’s House is a symbol of passion, courage, and determination. Wearing their bold red with pride, Chad’s students bring fierce energy to every competition, always striving for excellence in academics, sports, and the arts. Their mascot, a giant Lion, represents their House spirit; strong, fearless, and united. Whether leading the charge on Sports Day or harmonizing in House Music, St. Chad’s is known for its unwavering camaraderie and ambition, always roaring with pride.

St. Oswald’s House

Named after Saint Oswald of Northumbria, the visionary king who united Bernicia and Deira and spread Christianity across Northumbria, St. Oswald’s House stands for leadership, ambition, and unity. Their bright yellow colours reflect their bold and energetic nature, always shining in every challenge they take on. Known for their brash and fearless attitude, Oswald’s students bring fierce competition to House events, never backing down from a challenge. Whether dominating the sports field or raising their voices in House Music, they embody the determination and spirit of their namesake, leaders through and through.

St. Peter’s House

Named after St. Peter the Apostle, a pillar of strength and leadership, St. Peter’s House remains as prominent in the school today as its namesake was in AD 30! Wearing their bold blue with pride, St. Peter’s is home to outstanding talent in sport, music, and drama, with students excelling across all areas of school life. But their journey doesn’t stop there, St. Peter’s must continue to take “blue power” to the next level, pushing boundaries and aiming high to secure the biggest victories. With teamwork, determination, and a winning mindset, St. Peter’s House is ready to make history.

School House

The only House not named after a Saint, School House carries a legacy rooted in tradition and excellence. Once home to the school’s boarding boys, its history lives on, even as the old Boarding House has now become the Music Department. Proudly wearing green, School House embodies resilience, ambition and unity. With a rich past and a strong presence, its members strive for success in all areas, whether on the sports field, the stage, or in academics. School House students continue to uphold their proud heritage, forging a future built on teamwork, perseverance and House spirit.
