Review of Marking
PLEASE BE ADVISED THIS IS NOT A REMARK OF YOUR PAPER(S)

Before applying for a Review of Marking, you should note:

  • component results can go up, down or stay the same – this means that your overall grade can also do the same.
  • on average, reviews only result in a change of 3 or 4 marks – and they, more often than not, do not change at all.
  • component results do have notional grade boundaries, but these are irrelevant when considering a review of marking.  You must check your
  • Award Grade Boundary, to see if you are close to the next grade up.
  • if having two (or more) components in the same subject reviewed, it is entirely possible that one of the reviews could take the total mark above the award grade boundary, whilst the second review brings it back under again.
  • the outcome document you will receive from the awarding body will only indicate the overall mark for the reviewed component(s) it will not show any changes to marking at the question level – if question level information is required, you must request an EAR2S Review of Marking, plus a photocopy of your reviewed script or EAR2PS Review of Marking, plus a photocopy of your reviewed script service.
  • All reviews of marking include a copy of the reviewed script.
EAR1 – Clerical Re-check

A Clerical Re-check is a re-check of all clerical procedures leading to the issue of a result.

This service will include the following checks:

  • that all parts of the script have been marked;
  • the totalling of marks;
  • the recording of marks

The outcome of the re-check will be reported along with a statement of the total marks awarded for each unit, or component, included in the enquiry.

Outcome within 10 calendar days.

EAR2 – Review of Marking

A review of the original marking to ensure that the agreed mark scheme has been applied correctly.

This service will include:

  • that all parts of the script have been marked;
  • the totalling of marks;
  • the recording of marks;
  • a review of marking as described above;
  • if requested, a copy of the reviewed script(s) for those units/components included as part of the Access to Scripts service.

Deadline for application and payment – midday, Monday 22 September 2025

Outcome within 20 calendar days.

EAR2P (Priority review of marking/Service 2) / University Place Pending

Important: Awarding bodies strongly advise candidates to inform their university or college choices that a review of results has been requested. By informing them, they may be able to keep the candidate’s place open until the review has been completed. An awarding body will not inform UCAS or others that a review of marking has been requested. However, it will advise UCAS of any grade change arising from a review.

Deadline for application and payment – midday, Tuesday 19 August 2025

Outcome within 15 calendar days

General Examinations Check List

Check your timetable to familiarise yourself. Any questions or queries should first be referred to the Exams Officer. All examination notices will be posted in the Science Foyer.

Entry to the Main Hall will be via the Foyer. Please make your way there through the Science corridor. Doors will open at least 10 minutes before the start of the exam.

Arrive at your exam with all the necessary equipment required for the exam. All necessary equipment should be brought to exams in a transparent pencil case or plastic bag. This should include black pens, pencils, ruler, rubber, sharpener, calculator and any Maths equipment.

Any water bottles must be transparent with the label removed.

Candidates are not allowed mobile phones, smartwatches or MP3/4 players in any exam room. These should be kept in individual lockers. It is important to note that in public examinations, if a candidate is found to have a mobile phone on their person, even if they did not use it, this can lead to the candidate losing all marks for that examination.

Full school uniform must be worn whilst on the School premises. You will also need to bring your swipecard which should be placed on your desk as identification.

Absence

Should you be absent for any examination, it is essential that Mrs Foster is contacted immediately – please do not leave a message with other staff to be passed on, and to arrange an alternative time to sit the exam(s). Absence due to illness on the day of an exam should be notified directly at 01733 751541 ext 371.

You do not need to contact Pupil Reception as Mrs Foster will let the School know. If you do not reach her immediately, you must keep trying - do not leave a message with anyone else in School. If you miss an exam, it is your responsibility to speak to Mrs Foster.
