Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Group
Our Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) groups are a testament to our commitment to the school’s Christian values. The purpose of our EDI groups is to improve inclusion by raising awareness, accepting and celebrating our differences, and challenging prejudice in society.
The groups meet during lunchtimes and are led by dedicated teachers who ensure that each session is engaging, purposeful, and age-appropriate.
These include:
- Culture and Ethnicity Group
- Mental Health and Wellbeing Group
- LGBTQ+ Group
Each group is responsible for raising awareness through leading school assemblies and organising activities that are educational and promote a sense of joyfulness, whilst raising money for charity.
The school’s theologically rooted Christian vision, "many members, but one body, as it is with Christ" (1 Corinthians 12:12), encapsulates the principles of equality, diversity, and inclusion. Just as the body is made up of many different parts, each with its own unique function, our school community is composed of individuals with diverse backgrounds, talents, and perspectives. Each member is valuable and essential to the whole, and by working together in harmony, we can achieve excellence and foster a supportive, inclusive environment.
Below is an outline of the annual events organised by the groups:
Children's Mental Health Week
Activities and events for Mental Health Week will involve workshops on stress management and mindfulness sessions.
The school’s wellbeing group will be delivering a whole school assembly to help students feel better informed about the importance of wellbeing and support available.
Culture Market
An annual event featuring foods from different cultures. The preparation of food is supported by the school’s food technology teacher and sold in the main school hall during lunch.
The event also features music from around the world and displays that deepen students’ cultural understanding; this year will also see a catwalk event showcasing styles from around the world.
“Proud to be Me”
A week where students of all backgrounds have the opportunity to celebrate their differences
The schools LGBTQ+ Support Group will be fundraising through selling crafts and bakes inspired by the national Pride event.
St George’s Day
The event helps remind students of Christianity’s long-held tradition of welcoming all and defending the rights of those in need.
The day will involve activities highlighting our rich national heritage (including regional sports) and will remind students of the diverse and inclusive nature of our national and Christian identity.
