Musical Life
The Music Department is a vibrant place where your child’s interests in music will be nurtured.
The Cathedral Choristers rehearse daily in the Department, and large numbers of pupils participate in a wide range of weekly extra-curricular activities which cater for both classical and popular tastes.
Senior groups include the Orchestra, Senior Concert Band and Senior Choir; there is also a String Orchestra, Brass Ensemble, Clarinet Group, Flute Ensemble and Saxophone Ensemble. Various chamber groups such as string quartets and vocal ensembles rehearse during the week. A Junior Choir, Junior String Orchestra and Junior Band cater for younger pupils.
Popular activities also include a Jazz Group, a Soul Band, a Gospel Choir, a Barbershop Group, a Karaoke Club and Open Mic sessions. Various bands rehearse regularly in the Department either before school, at lunchtime or after school.
Whole-school music events include House Music, the Christmas, Spring and Summer concerts, and the annual Whole-school Production. Musicians also perform to large audiences in regular Cathedral Services and in other concerts throughout the year. Junior Department pupils perform in the weekly Tootle, and senior school pupils perform in weekly whole-school assemblies and on popular European Music Tours, which take place every two years.
