The King's (The Cathedral) School

Sports Round-up w/c 15 January

Badminton, Basketball and Indoor Cricket Results

Six pupils represented the School on Monday night at the Peterborough Schools Key Stage Three Badminton tournament. The standard of the competition was very high and our pupils found it very tough, with only Felix Anderson managing to make it past the group stages but being knocked out in the quarter final.

On Thursday it was the turn of our Key Stage Four students, who did much better and dominated both the Girls' and Boys' events. Charlotte Sethna played well all night and eventually finished as overall Girls' runner-up. In the Boys' competition Keyshar Datoo, Oscar Dolan and Isaac Rowles all made it into the knockout stages, with Isaac eventually knocking out Keyshar in the quarter-finals and then Oscar in the semi-finals. Unfortunately he was halted in the final and also finished as runner-up - our two silver medallists are pictured here.

The U16 Boys played in the semi-final of the Peterborough Schools Playoff this week against a strong Hampton College team. The boys started well with Tomi Ogunyoye scoring a couple of easy baskets and went into the half time break with a slender lead. Unfortunately in the second half they weren’t able to hold on and agonisingly lost 23-21.

Indoor Cricket

The U15 Indoor Cricket team played their opening fixture against Thomas Deacon Academy this week, expecting a tough match against a team who often win this competition. Some great batting, tight bowling and committed fielding from all the boys led to a very close game with King's eventually emerging as winners 117 runs to 97.
