Ten pupils from Year 10 were selected to attend a day of interactive language learning at Magdalene College at the University of Cambridge on Thursday 29 June. During the day, pupils were taught by University lecturers in their GCSE language option and then experienced taster lessons in Arabic and Russian. All the pupils participated fully in the day and it was a very enjoyable experience for all. The Head of the Languages faculty at the University was keen to encourage pupils to keep up their language skills to A-Level and to consider taking a language for a degree course, either as a pure Languages degree or combined with another subject.
Throughout the day, four University students currently studying Modern Languages at Cambridge were able to share their enthusiasm and passion for studying Languages and gave a valuable insight into life as a Modern Languages student at University. As Modern Linguists are in high demand in the UK, it is hoped that more young people will take up the opportunity to master various Languages as it will undoubtedly place them in high regard amongst employers in the future.
